About

…this site

I have been playing with this weblog, in one form or another, since 2002. I had been using weblogs at work with much success and decided I wanted a place to speak about issues that were wider in focus than my other weblogs allowed. Recently I have not been posting much, and I realized that part of the problem was that I felt uncomfortable hosting a site that was only marginally work related on servers that I did not pay for. I’ve therefore moved the site to my personal domain and hope to post here more regularly. While the topics are likely to be widely varied, my interests include instructional technology, weblogs in education, social software, personal productivity/management (esp. Stephen Covey and David Allen), Japanese language and culture, popular culture, educational psychology, gadgets, time-shifting media, etc.

…me

My name is Dale Pike and I am an instructional technology professional living and working in Charlotte, North Carolina.

…Stand Up Eight

I lived in Japan for two years as a young man and fell in love with the language and the culture. One of my favorite Japanese proverbs is, “Nana korobi ya oki”, which, translated literally, says, “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.” I seem to enjoy practicing this concept in various forms throughout my life… 😉
